My first panic attack experience started with shaky, trembly, and vibrating sensations throughout my body! It was such a frightening experience! It felt as if I was losing total control of myself.

IT took me about a month to realize that what I’ve been experiencing are panic attacks. After three or more episodes, I decided to call my doctor and made an appointment to come in immediately. It was then that I was informed about my condition.

In my prior posts I mention the first time I experienced an anxiety episode, which were the palpitations. This symptom drove me to emergency! I Thought I was having a heart attack! The tremors, shaking, and vibrating sensations came soon after.

This is all due to fluctuations of the hormones during perimenopause.

If you are experiencing these symptoms during perimenopause, believe that it is from fluctuating hormones.

The good thing about it is that it can be managed.  I’ve spoken to many women that are experiencing these symptoms.

Is it common? Yes indeed.

Perimenopause panic attacks

I thought I had hyperthyroidism due to tremors, shaking, and vibrating sensations.  A panic attack episode can mimic other health issues, which can cause you to believe that you have a certain type of underlying disease.

Instantly we think that something is seriously wrong when we experience these symptoms; I mean, who wouldn’t?

Usually when these symptoms are about to come on, you start feeling hot, you also start to sweat, palpitations come on, then we also begin to shake, get tremors and feel vibrations throughout our bodies.

The reason why we feel this way is that we have so much adrenaline running through our bodies.  When your body is in panic mode it believes that it’s in danger and it goes into a “fight or flight” response.  Your body starts to shake, tremor or vibrate when there is no escape to release these feelings, like exercise for example.

Your stress hormones are stimulants and can also trigger these sensations because they become stimulated which then causes your muscles to shake, vibrate and tremor.  I’ve experienced my teeth chattering at times if my panic attacks are very strong.

Coffee or caffeine beverages can stimulate the stress hormones, and have an adverse effect on your muscles, causing them to shake and tremor.

Working on trying to live a stress-free lifestyle can do wonders for your panic attacks. Your stress hormones have a huge impact on how mild or severe your panic attacks can be.

Once again, exercise, meditation and spending time with friends and family that care about you is always a pleasure and can be quite therapeutic.


Perimenopause panic attacks


Here are a few tips on what I’ve done for relief and other methods you can add to it, to fit your needs.

Music, music, and more music! Choose to listen to music that makes you feel happy, energized, relieved, etc.  I prefer to listen to energizing music during the day, and calming type music at night.  Here are several YouTube videos that I’ve listened to that have given me great relief.  These songs have put me in a very happy place:

Another great tip is to pamper yourself! You deserve it! Here are a few things that I’ve done to pamper myself.  It really helps to make you feel better about yourself and helps to put your mind elsewhere, other than on your symptoms:

  • Get a makeup makeover, or look at a YouTube video tutorial (for this “new normal” that we are currently living in). Taking time out for yourself is so important!
  • Buy yourself a gift!  A gift for yourself doesn’t have to expensive.  I treated myself to a new curler set to make myself look fabulous!
  • Meet new people!  Open your world and explore something new! (Of course it’s difficult to do that during these times that we are living in) but you can still meet new people and save the date for when we CAN enjoy each other’s company without feeling worried or paranoid.
  • Do you have young children or teenagers? Get into their world! Play games with them!  Take some quality time out with them! This is a sure way to get your mind off of your symptoms! Kids will definitely do it! Lol!  My kids love playing board games.  They’re awesome for the mind.
  • Pick up a new hobby! What is your CALLING or PASSION? Have you ever thought about it? Think about how exciting that can be!  I always wanted to learn how to knit.  Knitting is definitely another way to keep your mind sharp!
  • Lastly, pick out a good book to read. This is a great way to keep your mind working at its best!

I hope my tips encouraged you to think about things that you may not have EVER thought about for your happiness and sanity.  Please take out time for yourself. Taking out time for myself has not only made me feel better, but my panic attacks have also simmered down tremendously.
